As you read this piece, we ask that you be mindful of the fact that there is no one right way to market to millennials. Millennials are a diverse demographic spanning across three subsets. Their motivations, behaviors, and interests vary depending on which stage of life they are in.

The eGuide will describe the general approach you should take when marketing to this group, but the actual implementation will vary based on which subset you are marketing to and the nature of your business.



Millennials are the generation born between Gen X (early-to-mid 1960s and early 1980s) and Gen Z (mid 1990s to early 2000s). There is not a clear definition of the generation.

Suggested age ranges vary from:
• Born 1977-2000 (19 to 42 in 2019)
• Born 1980-2000 (19 to 39 in 2019)
• Born 1981-1996 (23 to 38 in 2019)
• Born 1980-1994 (25 to 39 in 2019)
• Born 1983-2003 (16 to 36 in 2019)

Regardless of the specific age range, there are three distinct subsets of millennials within the overall group. They can be loosely defined as the youngest, middle, and oldest of the generation.
